Another Great Day (Read Sarcasticly)
Well, I can't say this has been the best semester for me. Besides feeling sick most of the time, and being behind in almost all my classes, bad things just seem to keep happening to me. My latest joy? A broken mount and strut on my neon. That means $525 taken from my checking account. So, I'm 24 years old with $17 to my name. Oh, and a car that will be ready next Thursday. At least there's not an important holiday coming up where I will be expected to buy gifts for all my loved ones. That would suck. Anyway, I haven't not had a car since I was 15 and bought a ford festiva for $250. I forgot how annoying it is to rely on others for rides. Almost as annoying as walking in cold weather and snow for 30 mintues just to get milk to make mac and cheese. Almost. So, I'm excited for this semester to be over. My plans: Sleep for a week, work for a week, visit Steph in California for a week, and of course, going to Green Bay for the Packers vs. Seahawks game on January 1st. Section 113, ROW 4!!! Added bonus-the tickets were free and staying with friends will provide free food and lodging. I'm loving my schedule and classes for next semseter, too (taking an editing class with Dilger) and I already have a job after I graduate, so I really just have to make it through this semester alive and I'll be okay. Okay, I'm done venting now. I'm going to go watch a movie with some friends, where I'll fall asleep after the first 10 minutes.

I'm sorry to hear about your car problems. :( It is hard to go without a car. My husband works 2nd shift from 3-11, so I am often without a car and have to rely on others, and sometimes the bus (which is fun in the cold!) I wouldn't worry about holidays too much. Just make some cookies or something. People will understand. You're supposed to be poor because you're a college student! What job do you have after graduation???
Thanks for the encouragement. The job I have when i graduate is with www.rainbowresource.com. I will be writing and editing descriptions for their paper and online catalog, as well as working on layout stuff. I'll also get to travel around the country, especially during the summers, to go to conventions and exhibits. I'm not sure how long I'll be working for them because it's not a journalism job, but I told them I would stay at least a year to see how I like it. They're paying more than I'd make as a beginning journalist, so it will at least be nice to have some money for once. And I'm thinking I'll enjoy the work, I'm just a little afraid I'll get bored. But we'll see-it's definately a blessing to know I have a job-and it's somewhat related to my major. I'm getting kinda tired of being a poor college student, though it does give me an excuse to not buy everyone Christmas gifts.
Were you homeschooled? That looks like a cool business to work for. The traveling sounds exciting too! I hope you will like it. What kind of journalism job would you like to have eventually?
Did you get your car back yet? I hope so!
I am also taking the editing class next semester. :)
The only thing more of a pain in the butt than not having a car is having one.
Erin and I had a Festiva for years, affectionately named "The beer can." We traded it for a six-pack of Rogue Mocha Porter when we left Gainesville.
Awesome-Festiva's are so cool-I really miss mine. So cheap and pretty reliable. Good trade for the six-pack, though.
I just got my car back today. I had no where to go, but I made a walmart run so I could bond with it again-and it's running great. Then I remembered I'm not buying from walmart and just came back home.
And no, I wasn't homeschooled-I actually spend most of my childhood making fun of my homeschooled cousins, but since then I've met a ton of amazing, socially adjusted people who were homeschooled and I really love the owners of the homeschooling company I'll be working for-I met their daughter at my other college and that's how I got connected for the job.
Eventually, I'd like to work for a small town newspaper, at least for a few years. My grandpa used to own the paper in our town and working there always looked like fun. We'll see though-I'm pretty flexible and don't have any real career goals right now.
